Approximately fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism left him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
