The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The speculation around the recent awards show has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team is likely designing a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, letting players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
